1. William Oliver "Ollie" Phillips, son of Oliver Cornwell J Phillips and Mary Ann Baker, was born on 1 Mar 1839 in Ouachita County, Arkansas, died on 4 Nov 1913 in Valley Spring, Llano County, Texas, USA at age 74, and was buried in Valley Spring Cemetery, Llano County, Texas, USA.

General Notes: Billy was a farmer and rancher and a blacksmith. He operated a cotton gin and a saw mill. After his wife Mary died, he moved to Valley Spring and operated a blacksmith shop. He passed away November 4, 1913 at the age of 74 years. His family lived in the large log home of his father O.C.J. Phillips.

Ollie, Samuel W., W.O., Jr., Rufus E., Charles, Lou Ellen, Sallie J., Dollie A., George W., Jim and John (Twins). Only three of them survive, Lou
Ellen, Jim and John.

After his marriage, he lived at the "Phillips Ranch", but moved down to Llano town and engaged in the mercantile and cattle business, during some of which time he was a blacksmith. His father having died, he and the widowed mother exchanged property, whereby she moved down to Llano and took over the Phillips property therein, and William took over the "Phillips Ranch" property near the Valley Spring village where he resided until his death, November 13, 1913. "Uncle Billie", as he later generally came to be called, has a story of himself worth noting - considering his varied activities in his long life course. He bought cattle for other persons. Here follows a copy of a power of attorney to him given by the late Charles T. Moss concerning beef cattle of the latter.viz.

County of Llano KNOW ALL MEN BY THESE PRESENTS: That I, C.T. Moss, of the County of Llano and State aforesaid, have this day nominated, continued and appointed, and by these presents, nominate, constitute and appoint W.O. Phillips, of the said County and State, together any and all my cattle he may find running on the north
side of the Llano river, marks and brands as follows, to wit: The said W.O. Phillips is to gather all said cattle and bring them on this side of the river. He is further authorized to sell all beeves in said marks and brands, to wit.

It will be noted that cattle in that day and time, there being no fences or enclosed pastured, scattered very much, and though Mr. C.T. Moss, as I understand, lived in the southern part of Llano County, some 12 or 14 miles south from the Llano River, his cattle, reaching the growth and age to be termed "Beeves scattered about so as to leave apparently a number of them that had drifted north and across the Llano
River.

General Notes: Courtesy of Tom Lanier - William (Will) Orgon Phillips, Jr. was shot at Valley Springs, Texas by Don Franklin Gray. Mr. Gray shot him in the back and went to his body and shot him again. He then told everyone not to touch Mr. Phillips till he died. Mr. Gray was sent to prison and later release. Later on in life, Mr. Gray told his nephew, Castlenut, that he was coming to his house and kill him. Mr. Castlenut told Mr. Gray that if he opened the gate and come into his yard, that he would shoot and kill him. Mr. Gray came to his place and open the gate and came into the yard. Mr. Don Franklin Gray was born September 21, 1882 and was the won of William Francis Gray and Susan Caroline "Sue" Bigham. Don Gray had two brothers and two sisters. The brothers were George William "Will" Gray and Charlie Patton Gray, who married two sisters at the same time. Will Gray had a ranch in Valley Springs, Texas and Charlie Gray went to Brady, Texas and established a bank.

A twist to this is that Charlie Gray died and his widow married Charles Samuelson. Charles Samuelson had married Kathryn Talley who was William Orgon Phillips granddaughter and her mother was Sadie Phillips. Kathryn died and Charles then married Gray Widow.

Courtesy of Tom Lanier - George and Leta made their home on the old Phillips Ranch. Their house was built by Mr. Armstrong in 1879. It was a two story building made of rock and it was used as a store and post office at that time. George remodeled this building and made it into a beautiful home. George was a farmer and rancher, but he also did some blacksmith work. He lived on the farm until 1924, when he moved to Valley Springs. He opened up a garage and blacksmith shop. He also bought a nice home there. He operated this business until the construction of Buchanan Dam. He sold his business and home at Valley Springs and went to Buchanan and did the blacksmith work for the Dam. He lived there until the Dam was almost completed. He then went back to his farm at Valley Springs and retired. George was a big fisherman and hunter. He loved the outdoors. His family consisted of two daughters. Lula Mae who married Ernest Schneider October 8, 1926 and Mamie Ruth who married Andrew Schoenfeld, February 20, 1935. George passed away February 17, 1949.

Geroge married Luleta A Baumann, daughter of Louis Baumann and Millie Jane Graham, on 25 Aug 1909. Luleta was born on 3 Feb 1890 in Valley Spring, Llano County, Texas, USA and died on 15 Oct 1989 in Valley Spring, Llano County, Texas, USA at age 99.

James married Carrie Bauman on May 30, 1910 and John married Ella Bauman on October 8, 1910. These girls were sisters and the daughters of Louie Baumann and Millie Graham. Jim's home was the old log house of his grandfather's on the Phillips ranch. James and Carrie's family consisted of five girls: Lois, Lula Buelah, Louise, and Violet; and two boys; James and Billy. General Notes: Courtesy of Tom Lanier - John and his wife Ella made their home near the Round Rock on the Phillips Ranch. They had one son, J.B. who passed away September 22, 1965. John passed away July 7, 1978. John and James were very close, their land was all together. They planted large pecan orchards which yielded large crops of paper shell pecans. These trees are still there.

Pam Kilpatrick officiating. Burial followed in the Gooch Cemetery. He was born March 16, 1912, in Mason County to Emil Durst and Ellie Pluenneke Durst and died August 21, 2004. On May 3, 1936, he married Lois Phillips at the Valley Spring Church of Christ and their marriage was blessed with three children.

Wilbur was involved in ranching in Eastern Mason County all of his life. Durst was the first president of the Farm Bureau in Mason County and was president and a longtime board member of Central Texas Electric Cooperative. He was a member at the Castell UMC prior to that.

Preceding him in death were his brothers Wallace and Ray Durst, sisters Virgil Cifers and Rubye Jordan and a son-in-law Alvin Dannheim.

Serving as pallbearers were Jeff Durst, Steven Morley, James Black, Craig Thomas, Kody Dannheim, and David Drake.
